This is the air bleed from the air box to past the throttle body via an electronic idle valve. This must be airtight as it allows the engine, with a closed throttle, to idle perfectly. It also allow, via the same circuit, to boost a cylinder by opening the idle valve wide while increasing the fuel flow into that cylinder without changing the butterfly valve position. As a result, it gives instant boost as and when needed. If it leaks, this system means the engine is constantly running rich to manage the excess air intake, which also means its fuel usage is close to twice normal. It is also part of the electronic choke circuit. Therefore, this hose must not leak as it takes filtered heated air from the air box to the relevant cylinder.
