Like any vehicle, electric and hybrid cars require regular maintenance. This helps keep them running safely and reliably, and is also important to avoid needing expensive repairs to the electronics and suspension systems down the line.
Routine maintenance involves:
- inspecting and adjusting brake system components;
- detecting used battery modules and having them replaced at specialised garages;
- lubricating assemblies;
- checking the condition of service fluids;
- servicing the lighting and signalling systems;
- making sure the emergency battery disconnect switch is working properly.
To keep your electric vehicle running smoothly, you need to check its parts regularly and replace any that have worn out:
- Wiper blades: these should normally be changed at the start of summer and winter, and once per year at a minimum. The washer tank should always have a sufficient fluid level.
- Elements of the suspension system: shocks, suspension arms, tie rods and tie rod ends, and other components should be inspected at every scheduled maintenance and replaced if damaged or worn.
- Cabin air filter: this should be replaced every 10,000 to 20,000 km, depending the conditions you operate the vehicle in.
- Brake discs and pads: how often these need to be changed depends on your driving style, the quality of the material, as well as the road and weather conditions.
