For Ford Mondeo Mk4 (BA7) 1.8 TDCi (92 kW / 125 hp) 2007-2015, when installing a load-bearing/guided ball joint (type FEBI BILSTEIN 32163), the bolt torque values are critical for safety and durability.
As FEBI BILSTEIN only supplies the part itself and not the vehicle tightening specifications, you need to refer to the Ford factory specifications.
The following tightening torques are usually used for these ball joints on the Ford Mondeo Mk4 (they may vary slightly depending on the specific engine and year, so always check the official Ford ETIS or Ford Workshop Manual for your VIN):
Ball joint cone pin nut (to the steering knuckle):
This value is often around 48 Nm, then tighten further by 90°. (M14x1.5, as specified in the FEBI BILSTEIN description).
Ball joint to control arm bolts (if bolted):
Typically around 50-70Nm, possibly with an extra turn for the angle. (FEBI BILSTEIN 32163 comes with 3 bolts).
Important:
Always use a torque wrench.
New bolts and nuts: Manufacturers often require new bolts and nuts for suspension components, as they operate in the plastic deformation zone and are disposable. FEBI BILSTEIN 32163 usually comes with new bolts and nuts, which is good.
Do not grease the threads: Unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer, bolts and nuts must be clean and dry to tighten to the specified torque. Grease will change the friction and cause over-tightening.
Find the exact torque specification in the official workshop manual for your specific Ford Mondeo Mk4 model. This is the safest and most reliable way.
