More likely that the Tailgate strut 023713 STABILUS has not enough power. The standard Tailgate struts (and their replacements) are designed only to hold the lid open and make it easier to lift by hand. They don't have the explosive force at the very beginning of their stroke to overcome the weight of a closed door.
* If you want to make any changes or upgrade your vehicle from the standard design you need to consult with your mechanic what kind of spare parts you need to have.
