Silicone gun: everything you need to know

Sealant guns help to apply the sealant onto the treated surface or seam easily and quickly. With this tool, you can precisely doze and distribute agent smoothly even if the parts are hard to reach.

What are the types of sealant guns

Based on design:

• Skeleton guns. They have a frame which consists of two ribs, connected by a ring, and a push rod. They may be made of steel and plastic. They are designed for 310 ml tubes. Fit for small applications.

• Half-barrel guns. Equipped with a tube holder, unlike skeleton guns, and feature affordable price. Used for standard cartridges with volume up to 310 ml.

• Bulk guns. Their design features a cylinder barrel which serves as a container for sealant. Such tools fit for sealants in hard and soft packaging, as well as for bulk sealants of different volumes. Usually they are equipped with nozzles to adjust thickness of the seam.

Based on operation:

• Manual. You need to manually pull the trigger with certain force to push the rod. Their usability depends on thrust ratio.

• Pneumatic. They are equipped with special valve and, as a rule, the pressure regulator which provides accurate flow-control. The latter is powered by pressed air.

• Battery. Rod movement is forced by small electric drive. Such tools are highly efficient and user-friendly but more expensive than others.

How to use sealant guns

1. First carefully read the manual on the pack of the tool as well as of the sealant which you are going to fill it with. Precisely follow the recommendations specified there.
2. Prepare the sealant pack for use. As for the tube, open it with utility knife, then put on the applicator and cut its tip off at 45° angle. If you’re using the product in a soft pack, cut off its edge.
3. To load skeleton or half-barrel caulking gun press the stop plate, pull out the piston rod and then insert the tube. When loading the tube tool with the product in soft or hard package, demount its tip, pull out the piston rod at full-length, insert the sealant into the cylinder and put on the nozzle. To load the bulk sealant you should push the rod into the cylinder, sink the gun into special hole on the sealant container cap, and slowly pulling back the rod, load the gun.
4. To adjust bead thickness change pressure on the trigger and sealant gun movement speed.
5. After all works being done, don’t forget to put the cap on the tube and clean all parts from product residues.
